Camperdown Critical Care Consultants provides highly qualifed Intensivists to the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.
The care provided by Intensivists includes acute resuscitation of critically ill and unstable patients, assessment of deteriorating patients on general wards, ongoing day-to-day care in the Intensive Care Unit and care of the dying patient.
In the Intensive Care Unit all care is a collaboration between the attending medical and surgical teams, the intensive care nurses, other health staff and the Intensive Care Medical team - which will include both intensive care specialists and training doctors.
As well as supervising the complex teamwork of the Intensive Care Unit, intensivists look after the machinery of life support in the ICU including mechanical ventilators, dialysis machines, catheters to safely give medications, monitor the bodies vital signs and drain abnormal collections of fluids. They can also perform diagnostic test with ultrasound machines.
